• "WATERLOO, an incorporated town of Quebec, capital of Shefford co., on the C. P. R. and C. V. R.. 60 miles from Montreal. It contains churches of 5 denominations, 2 telegraph offices, 1 branch bank, 2 printing offices issuing weekly newspapers, 1 knitting factory, 1 chair factory. 1 furniture factory, 2 carriage factories, 1 iron foundry, 1 grist and 1 saw mill, 4 hotels and 25 stores. It has a fine system of water works; the houses and the streets are lighted by electricity. Pop. 1733."
