Vangsnes is a village located in the municipality of Vik in Vestland county, Norway. It's located on a relatively flat and fertile peninsula that juts out on the south side of the Sognefjorden, roughly at the midpoint of the fjord which is Norway's longest. The village of Balestrand lies about to the northwest (across the fjord) and the villages of Leikanger-Hermansverk lie about straight east (also across the fjord). Vangsnes Church is located in the village.

The village sits along Norwegian National Road 13 and it is connected with Hella in Leikanger municipality and Dragsvik in Balestrand municipality, both on the north side of Sognefjorden, through a ferry system operated by Fjord1.

Vangsnes is now part of Vik. Before 1964 it was part of Balestrand. Before 1849 it was part of Leikanger clerical district.

Vangsnes. "Har vistnok sit Navn af Skjæret Vangsen, der ligger ud for Odden af Vangsnes" (NG. Mscr.). Ordet Vangsne (oldn. vangsni), som i Sogn tildels udtales v/ao/ngse, betyder "Plogjern", og hvis Ryghs Forklaring er rigtig, maa man have fundet Lighed i Form mellem Skjæret og et saadant Jern. En saadan Lighed maa ialfald ligge til Grund for Vangsen som Navn paa et Fjeld mellem Jostedal og Lyster. Antagelig har der været en gammel Gaard Nes, som er bleven delt i to, den ytre Nesgaard (BK. 50 a) og Vangs-nes, Nes-Gaarden ved Vangsen. Naar Vangsnes udtales med Enstavelsestone, kan dette komme af, at 1ste Led opr. har havt to Stavelser (*Vangsna-); men denne Betoning findes ogsaa, saavidt sees, i alle Sammensætninger med Gen. af Vang (Vangr), formodentlig fordi Vangs- i disse altid er Gen. af et Stedsnavn, ikke af Fællesordet Vang. Til Grund for Kildernes Vangsnes kunde altsaa ligge et nu forsvundet Navn Vangr, hvad der ikke vilde være urimeligt, da Vangsnes er et gammelt Kirkested (se Indl. S. 84). Skjær-navnet Vangsen maa isaafald være dannet af Gaardnavnet og kunde sammen-lignes med Kvolmo, Navn paa en Ø udenfor Gaarden Kvaleim i Manger, som det synes dannet af det sidste (Bd. XI S. 391). Da der imidlertid ikke findes andre Spor af et Vangr her, er vel Ryghs Forklaring den rette.
