From Stewartry of Kirkcudbright Memorial Inscriptions pre-1855, vol 5, by Alison Mitchell, published 1996 by the Scottish Genealogy Society, Edinburgh, Scotland:
- "The parishes of Twynholm, or Twinam, and Kirkchrist have been united since 1641. The parish now extends in a strip, 10 miles north to south and about 2 miles wide, from the hills by Balmaghie to the Dee estuary. Apart from the north quarter it is well wooded and fertile farmland.
- "A parish church existed at Twynholm by 1174. The present church is a replacement of 1818, surrounded by the burial ground. The village cottages have been built on the slope beside and below it, on the banks of the Auchengassel Burn. There is a 20th century cemetery a half mile along the road to the east."
