Twelvemile township is in the southern part of the county organized in 1842, changed in 1845 when the county was redistricted into six townships, changed in 1851 when Union Township was cut off, enlarged in 1857 when the residue of Union Township remaining after Iron County was formed was attached to Twelve Mile Township, and changed in 1909 when Central Township was created.
