A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Tughall from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"TUGHALL, a township in Bambrough parish, Northumberland; 9 miles N by E of Alnwick. Acres: 1,799. Population: 109. Houses: 19. Ruins are here of a church which was connected with Lindisfarne priory."

Tughall was an ancient parish in the Bamburgh Ward which also became a civil parish in the 19th century. From 1894 until 1955 it was part of Belford Rural District. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed into the parish of Beadnell.
