Tilton is an ecclesiastical and civil parish now in the Harborough District of Leicestershire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 601. It lies on the B6047 road to Melton Mowbray, 2 miles north of the A47.

In 1935 Halstead civil parish was merged with Tilton, while the deserted medieval village of Whatborough was merged in 1994. Marefield remains a separate civil parish, but is part of the Tilton Electoral Ward. St Peter's Tilton, the Parish Church, is in the parish of Halstead, as is the vicarage.

The village of Tilton on the Hill is one of the highest places in East Leicestershire at 719 feet (219 m) above sea level, with the Mill House standing at the highest point. Whatborough is the highest summit in the eastern half of the county.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Tilton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"TILTON, a parish, with four townships, in Billesdon [registration] district, Leicester: 2½ miles NE of Billesdon, and 9 ESE of Syston [railway] station. It has a post-office under Leicester. Acres: 3,112. Real property: £7,280. Population: 432. Houses: 95. [Tilton] manor is divided. Marefield manor belongs to T.Hinks, Esq.; and Whatborough, to All Souls College.
"Stone is quarried; and there are petrifying springs. A Roman station was at Howbank Hill. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough. Value: £380. Patron: alternately H. Nevile, Esq., E. A. Holden, Esq., and the Rev. R. T. Adnutt. The church was restored in 1854. There are two Wesleyan chapels, and a national school."

Tilton's four townships were Tilton on the Hill, Halstead, Marefield and Whatborough. The latter three became separate civil parishes in 1866, but as described above are now much more allied with Tilton than they were between 1894 and 1935.
