In 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894, the parish of Studham was partitioned into two parts, one on each side of the county border between Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. They were re-united as a single parish, when part was transferred from Hertfordshire to Bedfordshire, in 1897. To allow for the organization of local government at that time, the Studham Rural District was set up to cover Studham and was abolished in 1897. Studham was transferred to Bedfordshire in 1897.
