Stanley is a village in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 107 at the 2010 census, down from 145 in 2000. It is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. [edit] Research Tips
Formerly "Cowpens",1800's, a overnight stopping place for Texas cattle herds. Cowpens owned by Mrs Mary Pugh Located east of the old Oak Grove school. Info by M. Van Austin, Sheriff of Desoto Parish. 1907 four schools were consolidated into "Oak Grove". Hickory Grove located on John Booker road. Old Oak Grove located on the William Roberts road. Cook school located on David road, now known as Firetower Road. Old Russel School located on Fire Tower road near the old Newton Temple home. Remained grade school until 1919. First pupils finished school in 1919. They were issured Certicates, instead of Diplomas. Lilley Murphrey(Desoto). Gladys Roberts(Bates). Eva Coday(Wyatt) Deathe: sept 26, 2004 at age 102. 1907 Hunter school consolidated with Oak Grove. 1931 Lula School, the 7th thru 11th transferred to Oak Grove. 1957 Lula 1st thru 7th transferred to Oak Grove. 1925 two storey building burned. School held in Jack Stanley and Erastus P. Sims home. 1926 two new building built. 1943 grade school building burned. 1939 WPA built gym. 1945 Lock plant built. 1948 12th grade added, and new brick elementary school built. 1954 Locker plant burned. 1957 new Locker plant built.
