Historically, Stainton (near Tickhill) was an ancient parish in the wapentake of Strafforth and Tickhill. It included a hamlet named Hellaby which was tranferred to Bramley civil parish in 1886. From 1894 Stainton was located in Doncaster Rural District. In 1924 the neighbouring civil parish of Maltby (near Rotherham) was made an urban district and Stainton was split into two civil parishes: Stainton (its more rural section) and Stainton Urban (redirected here) which joined Maltby Urban District. Since 1974 Stainton (near Tickhill) has been in the new administrative county of South Yorkshire, specifically within the Doncaster Metropolitan Borough.
Hellaby had been reformed as a civil parish since 1974. (Source: Wikipedia)
