South Queensferry, also called Queensferry or simply "The Ferry", is a former Royal Burgh in the County of West Lothian. The town is now part of the City of Edinburgh. It is located some ten miles to the north west of the city centre, on the shore of the Firth of Forth between the Forth Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge, and approximately 8 miles (13 km) from Edinburgh Airport. There is a North Queensferry in Fife and the other end of the bridges. South Queensferry has a population of around 12,000. There were ferries at Queensferry until 1964 when the Forth Road Bridge was opened. Ferry services continue to run from the harbour to the islands of the Firth of Forth, including Inchcolm.
