South Mimms Urban parish was created in 1894 from part of South Mimms parish. The 'urban' in its title was to reflect the fact that it covered that part of South Mimms that was part of the urban area of the town of Barnet. The parish was never administered separately; from its creation it was part of Barnet Urban District (and was therefore deemed to be in Hertfordshire, whereas the remainder of South Mimms stayed in Middlesex). Barnet Urban District was abolished in 1965, becoming part of the London Borough of Barnet in Greater London. [edit] Research Tips
