Smithville is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 1,330 at the 2010 census. The town is at the western border of Chenango County, west of the city of Norwich.

The land was first settled around 1797. The town of Smithville was founded from part of the town of Greene in 1808.

The population of Smithville in 1865 was 1,634.

The Smithville Valley Grange No. 1397 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
