Skipwith is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Selby in the Selby District of North Yorkshire.

From 1894 until 1935, Skipwith was located in Riccal Rural District. In 1935 the Riccal Rural District was abolished and its place was taken by Derwent Rural District which administered the local area until the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974. Since 1974, Skipwith has been in the Selby District of North Yorkshire.

Historically, Skipwith was an ecclesiastical parish in the wapentake of Ouse and Derwent.
