Sholing was a civil parish created in 1894 from part of the Hound parish located southeast of Southampton on the east side of the River Test. From 1894 to 1898 both these parishes were part of the South Stoneham Rural District. In 1898 Sholing and its northern neighbour St. Mary Extra formed the urban district of Itchen which existed until 1920 when it was absorbed into Southampton County Borough. (Source: Wikipedia)
