Sheen became a civil parish in 1866 and joined Leek Rural District in 1894. Since 1974 it has been part of the Staffordshire Moorlands non-metropolitan District in Staffordshire, England.
A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Sheen from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "SHEEN, a parish, with a village, in Leek district, Stafford; on the river Dove, 8½ miles W S W of Bakewell r. station. Post-town, Allstonefield, under Ashborne. Acres: 2,790. Real property: £4,246. Population: 427. Houses: 87. The property is much subdivided. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield. Value: £63. Patron: A. J. B. Hope, Esq. The church was mainly rebuilt in 1829. There is an endowed school with £13 a year."
