From The Gazetteer for Scotland
- "A significant island facing the Little Minch at the eastern end of the channel between North Uist and Benbecula, Ronay (Gael: Ronaigh) extends to 563 ha (1391 acres) in area. This craggy island has a highly indented coastline and rises to 115m (377 feet) at Beinn a' Charnain. Once supporting a population exceeding 150, Ronay's impoverished land resulted in most of the people being cleared by the 1870s. By the 1930s the island was uninhabited."
