Rockbourne is a village and civil parish in the New Forest District of Hampshire, close to Fordingbridge with a 21st century population of 319.
A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Rockbourne from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "ROCKBOURN, a village and a parish in Fordingbridge [registration] district, Hants. The village stands near the boundary with Wilts, 3½ miles N W of Fordingbridge, and 8 S by W of Salisbury [railway] station; and has a post-office under Salisbury. The parish contains also the hamlet of Brickhill and part of Sandhill-Heath. Acres: 3,798. Real property: £3,653. Population: 507. Houses: 115. The property is divided among a few. The manor belongs to the Earl of Shaftesbury. The Manor House was the birth-place of the first Lord Shaftesbury; and is now partly destroyed and partly a farm-house. West Park is the seat of the Coote family. A pillar, on high ground, commemoratesthe victories of Sir Eyre Coote. The living is a donative in the diocese of Winchester. Value: £624. Patron: Lady Coote. The church is partly ancient, was partlyrebuilt in 1830; and contains monuments of the Cootes. There are parochial schools."
