Research Tips

Rikkenau was founded in 1811 as the Mennonite village Rückenau within the Molotschna Colony. The village was originally settled by German-speaking Mennonite immigrants from Prussia. 1811 census records and 1812-13 vital records (in German) can be found in Die Niederländisch-Niederdeutschen Hintergründe der Mennonitischen Ostwanderungen, by B. H. Unruh, pp. 330 and 336.
