Pontefract Rural District was one of the original rural districts of the West Riding of Yorkshire established in 1894. In 1938 the three large settlements were made into urban districts and the smaller parishes became Osgoldcross Rural District. The whole area is now a part of the City of Wakefield or Wakefield Metropolitan Borough.
