Pilning and Severn Beach has been since 1996 a civil parish within the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire, but the villages have been paired as a single civil parish since 1866, and prior to that as a "tything".

Pilning is a village in South Gloucestershire, England. Pilning is close to the M4 and M49 motorways and the A403 road, and has the South Wales Main Line railway running through it, with a minor station.

Because of the close proximity of the River Severn and the English Stones section of the river bed, Pilning has found itself the ideal place to make both a substantial railway tunnel and motorway bridge. The Severn Tunnel (railway) opened in 1885 and the Second Severn Crossing (motorway) opened in 1996.

The parish church of St Peter was completed in 1855 (consecrated 9 August), the principal architect was Thomas Henry Wyatt with H. Crisp. It has a late 20th-century south extension in same style. It is a grade II listed building.

Severn Beach

Severn Beach is a village on the mouth of the river Severn in South Gloucestershire, England. A riverside footpath, which is part of the Severn Way, leads beneath the Second Severn Crossing bridge. The eastern portal of the Severn Tunnel lies on the outskirts of the village.

Severn Beach only existed as a farm until Great Western Railway linked Pilning and Avonmouth in 1900. The railway saw the possibilities of development now that trains passed through the area and in 1922 the village became a seaside resort.
