Palnackie is located on a muddy estuary near the mouth of the Urr Water, 3 miles (5 km) south of Dalbeattie. Its harbour is built of wooden piles and dates from the 1850s. There was a community here from the 18th century and, before the development of railway communications, it was the port for Castle Douglas. The houses are built of local granite and immediately north is the Baronial-style Barlochan House. Palnackie was situated in the parish of Buittle in the former County of Kirkcudbrightshire in southwest Scotland. This area is now part of the unitary authority called the Dumfries & Galloway Council Area. [edit] Research TipsRefer to the parish of Buittle |
