New Pitsligo is a village in the parish of Tyrie. The village was built up around an older hamlet named Cyaak by Sir William Forbes of Monymusk, who did much to build up the village and encourage settlement. The village was historically part of the parish of Tyrie, though rather far from that parish church. In 1853, New Pitsligo was split off from Tyrie as a parish "quoad sacra" just as records registration was shifting to civil authorities, who still kept the village in the Tyrie registration district. (None of this should be confused with the parish named Pitsligo, which is further north.)
