Portreath is a civil parish, village and fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall, England. The village is about three miles (5 km) northwest of Redruth. The village extends along both sides of a stream valley and is centred around the harbour and beach. West of the harbour entrance and breakwater are two sandy beaches. Nancekuke is a hamlet within the civil parish. Portreath was part of the Redruth Rural District from 1894 until 1934 and part of the urban district of Camborne-Redruth from 1934 until 1974. [edit] Research TipsOne of the many maps available on A Vision of Britain through Time is one from the Ordnance Survey Series of 1900 illustrating the parish boundaries of Cornwall at the turn of the 20th century. This map blows up to show all the parishes and many of the small villages and hamlets. The following websites have pages explaining their provisions in WeRelate's Repository Section. Some provide free online databases.
