A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Mytholm from John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles of 1887:

"Mytholm, vil., in W. vicinity of Hebden Bridge, West-Riding Yorkshire."

Historically, Mytholm was in the ecclesiastical parish of Halifax in the Morley Division of the wapentake of Agbrigg and Morley. From 1894 until 1937, Mytholm was located in Mytholmroyd Urban District. In 1937 Mytholmroyd Urban District and Hebden Bridge Urban District merged to become Hebden Royd Urban District. In 1974 the whole area came under the aegis of the Calderdale Metropolitan Borough in the newly created West Yorkshire.
