Middleton near Rothwell is identified by GENUKI as "the seat of William Walker, Esq," situated 4½ miles south of Leeds, and 5 miles from Wakefield. It had a population of more than 1,000 in 1822.

The following description from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 is provided by the website A Vision of Britain Through Time (University of Portmouth Department of Geography).

"MIDDLETON, a village, a township, and a chapelry in Rothwell parish [West Riding of] Yorkshire. The village stands on an eminence, 4 miles S of Leeds [railway] station; and commands extensive views. The township contains also the hamlet of Belle-Isle. Post town: Leeds. Acres: 1,797. Real property: £9,261; of which £4,400 are in mines, and £30 in quarries. Population: 902. Houses: 207. There are several extensive collieries; and a tram road goes to the Bradling wharf at Leeds.
"The chapelry is more extensive than the township, and was constituted in 1849. Population: 1,360. Houses: 292. The living is a [perpetual] curacy in the diocese of Ripon. Value: £140. Patron: the Vicar of Rothwell. The church was built in 1846; is in the early English style; and consists of nave, aisles, N transept, and chancel, with tower and spire."

In Wikipedia the parish is named "Middleton, Leeds". There is an extensive article tracing the history of the manor, known as Middleton Park (as is the ward of Leeds Metropolitan Borough established in 1974) and also its industrial history. It was producing coal from before the Industrial Revolution until 1968. The population of Middleton Park ward was 26,228 at the 2011 UK census.
