the following text is based on an article in Wikipedia

Matson is a suburb of the City of Gloucester in Gloucestershire, England. The parish was abolished in 1935 to become parts of the parishes of Gloucester, Brookthorpe and Upton St. Leonards. The whole area is now part of the Gloucester Borough or District

Unlike neighbouring villages, Matson is not mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It appears to have been a part of the very ancient parish of Kings Barton at the time of the survey. Robinswood Hill is a large hill which lies entirely within the ancient parish of Matson and on the flanks of which the village lies.
