Macmerry (Gaelic: Magh Mhoire) is a large village located on the main road, the A199), just east of the town of Tranent in the parish of Pencaitland.

The 1920 Ordnance Survey map shows a colliery south of the village. There was an aerodrome, probably originating during the second World War (also known as Penston Aerodrome), which closed in 1953. A railway branch line existed until 1980 to serve the local coalmines.
