Lynsted is a village in what is now Lynsted with Kingsdown civil parish in the Swale borough of Kent, England. The village is situated south of the A2 road between Faversham and Sittingbourne. The nearest M2 junction is that for Faversham three miles east. Lynsted is in many respects an archetypal old English village with church, churchyard with an ancient yew, pub and a duck pond.
The parish's southern part is on the north slope of the North Downs; the hills Bluetown, Kingsdown is at 104 m above mean sea level and Erriottwood at 67 m. Its extent stretches from, in the north, the Roman road Watling Street, later named Greenstreet and now named London Road, where the hamlets south of it are Cellarhill or Cellar Hill and Claxfield (that borders Teynham across the road) to, in the south, Erriottwood. Bogle in the north-centre and Tickham in the east are the two other hamlets, within 1⁄4 mile of the centre. The land drains well with chalks of the North Downs. The population of Lynsted with Kingsdown was 1,600 in the 2001 UK census and 1,094 in the 2011 UK Census.
For more information, see the EN Wikipedia article Lynsted.
Includes a description of the parish church which has chapels to the Huggeson and Roper families who were among the wealthiest landowners from at least the 16th century.
Lynsted was originally an ancient parish in the Teynham Hundred. Between 1894 and 1935 it was part of the Faversham Rural District. In 1935 Faversham Rural District was abolished and the area was transferred to Swale Rural District. Since 1974 the area is covered by the non-metropolitan Swale District. It is since 1974 that Lynsted has joined forces with the neighbouring parish of Kingsdown (near Sittingbourne).

- Ordnance Survey Maps of England and Wales - Revised: Kent illustrates the parish boundaries of Kent when rural districts were still in existence and before Greater London came into being. The map publication year is 1931. An earlier map of 1900 may also be useful. The maps blow up to show all the parishes and many of the small villages and hamlets. Maps in this series are now downloadable for personal use.
- Census records for Kent are available on FamilySearch, Ancestry and FindMyPast. The first site is free; the other two are pay sites but have access to microfilmed images. Steve Archer produced a very useful round-up of the available sources, but this information may not be up to date.

- Volume 3 of the Victoria County History of Kent (published 1932) This includes the text of, and the index to, the Kent Domesday survey. It has been provided by the Kent Archaeological Society.
- In place of the other volumes of the Victoria County History, British History Online has transcriptions of the numerous volumes of The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent by Edward Hasted (originally published 1797)
- English Jurisdictions 1851, a parish finding aid provided by FamilySearch, is particularly helpful in locating parishes in large ancient towns and cities like Canterbury.
