A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Lowe from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"Leek and Lowe, township, Leek par., Staffordshire, 2722 ac., population 11,486; contains the greater part of Leek."

Lowe township was completely absorbed into the civil parish and urban district of Leek in 1934.
