The cemetery is located at the top of hill just off of Rt. 16, behind the Lizemores Methodist Church and the Post Office in Lizemores, West Virginia. It's approximately a mile to the top of the hill on a very narrow dirt road. Although a locked gate blocks the road, access can be made by either walking or using an ATV. If the gate would happen to be unlocked (doubtful because of cattle roaming the area), driving an automobile up the hill is out of the question. Even a 4-wheel drive is not recommended, especially if it has rained within a few days of your visit. The road is narrow, rocky, steep at times and near the top, runoff from the hill, or perhaps a spring, has created a gully across the road. The cemetery is kept up by the boy scouts in the area who once a year will mow and clear the brush from around the tombstones. Planning a visit around this event would increase the likelihood of locating and reading the tombstones once you make it to the top. The cemetery is also referred to as the Morton Cemetery, though this may be confused with the Allen Morton Cemetery located near Bentree. The names below are all known to be buried in the Lizemores (Morton) Cemetery. They are grouped by family, not necessarily as how they may be located in the cemetery.
BAKER, Sanford Clarence (father) CRUIKSHANK, Oscar E. MORTON, Ulysses Grant MORTON, Benjamin F. MORTON, Edgar R. MORTON, Edward R. MORTON, John T. MORTON, Delbert J. (son of Herbert MORTON and Agnes WOODY) MORTON, Paschal T. MORTON, James Griffie MORTON, John Clark MORTON, Richmond John
