A U.S. Post Office was established in Little Muddy on Novemeber 28, 1831. The Post Office name was changed to Mulkeytown when the city of the same name was incorporated around it on June 15, 1869.[1] It is said that the name Little Muddy came from the first postmaster, John Kirkpatrick, who lived near Little Muddy Creek.The first house built on the site was the home of John M. Mulkey.[2]
