Lincoln is the county town of Lincolnshire. Following the Local Government Act of 1972 it became a "non-metropolitan district" in 1974. A mid-2014 estimate of its population was 119,500. Lincoln has an area of 13.78 sq mi (35.69 km2).

The Lincoln District may contain parishes that were not part of the County Borough of Lincoln that existed before 1974, but this information has not been found. See the discussion on the Holland, Kesteven and Lindsey pages and also those for West Lindsey District and North Kesteven District (which bind Lincoln District north and south).
