Leverstock Green is a "modern" ecclesiastical parish, formed about 1849 from parts of the parishes of St Michael's (St Albans), Abbots Langley and Hemel Hempstead.

Leverstock Green is now best described as a suburb of Hemel Hempstead, located to the southeast of the town adjacent to the industrial sector and to the M1 motorway. Despite its recent amalgamation with Hemel Hempstead (date not given), the old names remain in memory of historical times.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Leverstock Green from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"LEVERSTOCK-GREEN, a chapelry in St. Michael, Abbots-Langley, and Hemel-Hempstead parishes, Herts; near the river Vei., 4 miles NW of St. Albans [railway] station. It was constituted in 1850; and it has a post office under Hemel-Hempstead. Population in 1861: 1,247. Houses: 254. Population of the St. Michael portion: 343; of the Abbots Langley portion: 554. The living is a [perpetual] curacy in the diocese of Rochester. Value: £50. Patron: the Earl of Verulam. The church was built in 1849."
