  • Municipal Incorporation: 6 Jul 1888[1]
  • In 1971, the municipalities of Brome, Knowlton, and Foster and hamlets of Bondville, Fulford, Iron Hill, and West Brome consolidated under the name of Lac-Brome.[2]

Lovell's Gazetteer (1895)

  • "KNOWLTON, the chief town of Brome co., Que., is pleasantly situated near the head of Brome Lake, and on the Sutton Junction and Drummondville branch of the C.P.R., 60 miles from Montreal and 10¼ miles from Waterloo. It contains 3 churches, Episcopal, Roman Catholic and Methodist, 1 telegraph office, saw mill, grist mill, several factories, 2 hotels, 5 stores, 1 printing office, lace leather and hemlock tanned sole leather tannery and telephone office. Knowlton is the summer residence of a number of Montrealers. Pop. 1000."
