Kilmacanogue. An Anglicised corruption of the Irish language Cill Mochonóg meaning the Church of Mochonóg.

The cemetery is located in the grounds of an old medieval church, which is in ruins. Due to the age and condition of the headstones, as many as 50% are illegible. The cemetery is closed, except for occasional burials in family plots, and was replaced by the nearby Kilmacanogue Cemetery (New).
