Address: 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, New York, 10595 USA Since many of the cemeteries in New York City had met their capacity, Kensico Cemetery was organized in 1889 to meet the need for a last resting place for the city's residents. Created initially from 250 acres of rolling farmland, the cemetery road frontage is about one mile long. Claiming to be the largest cemetery in the world, another 350 acres was added in 1905 to make a 600-acre cemetery. With winding lanes through the cemetery, it has a park-like appearance with hundreds of beautiful upright statues and monuments, ponds, shade trees, and benches for resting. [edit] Resources |
