Neighbouring municipalities are Juva, Leppävirta, Pieksämäki, Rantasalmi and Varkaus. Varkaus is located north of Joroinen, and Varkaus Airport is located in Joroinen. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Joroinen has the biggest disc golf course in Finland with 36 holes.
