Indian Creek is a village in Vernon Township, Lake County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and was originally incorporated in 1958 as a response to the threat of annexation by neighboring Vernon Hills. As of the 2010 census, Indian Creek's population was 462. Police services are provided by Lake County Sheriff and fire/EMS services by the Countryside Fire Protection District. This location may be confused with the Indian Creek Massacre, detailed below, which actually occurred in LaSalle County near Ottowa, IL. During the Black Hawk War of 1832, which was the last Indian war in Illinois, Indian Creek, was the scene of a vicious attack, by a band of 40-80 Potawatomi and Sauk, on the Davis Settlement, where 15 white settlers were killed and scalped.
