A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Hunton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"HUNTON, a chapelry in Crawley parish, Hants; 2½ miles W of Mitcheldever [railway] station, and 5½ S of Whitchurch. Post town, Mitcheldever Station. Acres: 1,033. Real property: £835. Population: 105. Houses: 24. The property is all in one estate. The living is a [perpetual] curacy, annexed to the rectory of Crawley, in the diocese of Winchester. The church is good."

Hunton became a civil parish in Winchester Rural District in 1894. In 1933 the parish was abolished and the area absorbed into the neighbouring parish of Wonston. Since 1974 the area is covered by the Winchester District or Borough.
