A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Higham Dykes from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"HIGHAM-DYKES, a township in Ponteland parish, Northumberland; 7 miles SSW of Morpeth. Acres: 219. Population: 26. Houses: 5."

Higham Dykes was a township in the ancient parish of Ponteland and became a separate civil parish in 1866. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed back into the parish of Ponteland.
