Hertford St. Andrew was an ecclesiastical parish that covered part of Hertford Borough. It was also a civil parish until 1894 when all the ecclesiastical parishes of Hertford released their civil parish functions to the Borough. The parish merged with other early ecclesiastical parishes of Hertford and in 1851 its complete name was the parish of Hertford St. Andrew with St. Nicholas and St. Mary. The parish was situated to the west of Hertford All Saints and St. John and was also bounded by the parishes of Hertingfordbury, Tewin, Bramfield and Bengeo. Like the other ecclesiastical parishes of Hertford, it included a rural area outside Hertford Borough. When Hertford St. Andrew turned over its civil parish functions to Hertford in 1894, this section of the parish continued to function as a civil parish and was named Hertford St. Andrew Rural. Hertford St. Andrew Rural ceded some of its area to Hertford in 1920 and the remainder of its area to Hertingfordbury in 1924. Hertford St Andrew's parish registers commenced in 1560 and its Bishops Transcripts in 1604.
