The village of Hecker is located on the eastern tip of Monroe County. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 475.[1]

History

The first house was built in the town of Hecker, then known as Freedom, in 1849. The town incorporated as a village under the name of Hecker in 1895.[2]
In the 1860 U.S. Census, the Hecker P.O. is listed in two Illinois counties: Township 2S Range 8W, in St. Clair County, Illinois as well as Township 3S Range 8W in Monroe County.(See 1875 Map listed below.)
