Place:Hawley with Minley, Hampshire, England

The original settlement of Hawley was a tything and chapelry in the parish of Yateley in Hampshire, England. Minley was located close by and was even smaller. In 1868 the two villages of Hawley and Minley were made into a separate civil parish of Hawley with Minley. This civil parish became part of Hartley Wintney Rural District in 1894. In 1932 the civil parish was abolished. Smaller sections were transferred to Farnborough and Fleet, but the largest area became the parish of Hawley.

Hawley

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Hawley from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"HAWLEY, a tything and a chapelry in Yately parish, Hants. The tything lies near the river Blackwater, the boundary with Surrey, and Blackwater [railway] station, 8 N by E of Farnham; and has a fair on 8 Nov. Real property: £3,119. Population: with Minley: 1,119. Houses: 202. The chapelry was constituted in 1838; and its post-town is Blackwater, under Farnborough Station. Population: 805. Houses: 153. The living is a [perpetual] curacy in the diocese of Winchester. Value, not reported. Patrons, the Representatives of the Late Rev. J. Randell. The church is a Gothic edifice of 1838. There is a national school."

Minley

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Minley from John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles of 1870-72:

"Minley, [ecclesiastical] dist. and vil., Yately par., Hants - dist., population: 149; the vil. is 3½ miles NW. of Farnborough; in vicinity of vil. is Minley Manor, seat."
