The following description from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 is provided by the website A Vision of Britain Through Time (University of Portsmouth Department of Geography).

"HAMFORDSHOE, a hundred in Northampton; bounded by Orlingbury, Huxloe, Higham Ferrers, Wymersley, and Spelhoe; and containing Great Deddington parish and seven other parishes. Acres: 1,061. Population in 1851: 10,381; in 1861: 10,898. Houses: 2,257."
