Hadham Rural District was formed in 1895 (a year after the introduction of rural districts) from the whole Bishop's Stortford Rural District which was abolished at the same time. In 1935 Hadham Rural District was also abolished. This time the parishes were divided between Braughing Rural District and Ware Rural District (as given below), with part of Thorley going to Bishop's Stortford Urban District. Some of the parishes were merged into single parishes in 1935.
