Hackbridge is a suburb in the London Borough of Sutton in southwest Greater London. It is situated 9 miles (14.6 km) south-west of Charing Cross (a point considered to be the centre of London from which distances are measured). Hackbridge is located on the River Wandle, about two miles north east of the town of Sutton itself.

In 1870 J M Wilson, in his Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described it as a hamlet in Carshalton parish. However, between 1915 and 1965 it was part of the urban district (later municipal borough) of Beddington and Wallington.
