The ancient parish of Tring included a small historic market town on the western edge of Hertfordshire, England and a rural section with a number of hamlets. In 1870 the area covered by the parish was 7,390 acres. On the introduction of rural districts in 1894, Tring was defined as a civil parish within Berkhamsted Rural District. In 1898 the town was made an Urban District, with the rural area to the northwest hived off to become Tring Rural (parish).
The largest of the settlements within the parish are Long Marston and Wilstone. Both have been redirected here.
In 1964 the neighbouring parish of Puttenham was absorbed into Tring Rural.
