Gloucester Barton St. Mary was a hamlet until 1896 and a civil parish from 1866 until 1896 when it was abolished and absorbed into the City of Gloucester. Prior to 1866 it was part of the ecclesiastical and civil parish of Gloucester St. Mary-de-Lode.
