A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Gasthorpe from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1871-72:
- "GASTHORPE, a parish in Guiltcross [registration] district, Norfolk; on the river Waveney, at the boundary with Suffolk, 4¾ miles S of Harling-Road [railway] station, and 7½ E by S of Thetford. Post town: Garboldisham, under Thetford. Acres: 864. Real property: £685. Population: 87. Houses: 18. The property is all in one estate. The living is a rectory, annexed to the rectory of Riddlesworth, in the diocese of Norwich. There is no church."
Gasthorpe remained a civil parish until 1935 when it was absorbed into the parish of Riddlesworth.
