A hamlet which now forms an eastern suburb of Dumfries, Gasstown is situated 2 miles (3 km) east of the town centre. It was named after Joseph Gass, who founded the settlement c.1810.

This area is now part of the unitary authority called the Dumfries & Galloway Council Area
